Such a review Dennis. Congrats. I wish you reached out to Europe with a proper tech presence...
We have carbon manufacturing in London.
I appreciate you and your work Dennis!
Thank you. It is an uphill battle telling the truth.
Wow! impressive. Curious as to much was spent on those treatment products to achieve this?
The project cost was around 50 K. Achieving the highest resolution room current technology can offer means "building" a new room within your existing room. You will not use hammer and screws. You will use a series of treatments that minimize and enhance the acoustical requirements to match the usage. These chosen treatments will take up 6 - 16" in room space.
sick AF! life goals!!!
I hope to hear it one day.
Why is the foam panel just laying on top of the carbon panels?
Room tuning is a process where you place treatment types in different places to manage reflections. As the resolution of the room increases, you begin to notice the areas that are producing distortions. Rememeber that there are two main areas of distortions. There are unwanted pressures along with unwanted reflections. You place treatment types in different locations and listen for improvements. Its a step by step process over time.
Cool.
Low frequency energy can be as defined and resolute as the mids and highs.
So the room should be empty? Not everyone has that luxury, it's going to be a compromise. What's the best compromise?
Keep all items no more than 12" off the floor so they don't interfer with mid range drivers.
View project page and gallery here: www.acousticfields.com/deep-quiet-forest/
Cool
This is death by a 1,000 cuts. Every piece of gear produces a spurious reflection. There are thousands off each piece. Add all of these together you get distortion that is represnted in a smaller soundstage with less seperation and resolution.
Cluster isn't difusser and absorber?
@@litoboy5 No. Not even close. Quadratic diffusion has a specific frequency response you can use as an ancoustical tool. All gear and racks give you are reflections. Remember the two main issues to manage in small rooms are unwanted pressures and reflections.
The k-402 horn has a horizontal pattern of only 90 degrees total and pattern control down to the Schroeder frequency area. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this way side wall reflections are limited
@@nicktube3904correct. Horns are narrow controlled dispersion and react less with rooms than typical box speakers.
Thank you for this information🍻
Thank you for your support
Thank you sir
Thank you.
Why do you seem put out and condescending in all your videos? Good Lord.
Opinions vary.
From all the videos you have made, I find this one the most interesting. Thanks for keeping up with these videos.
Both are methodologies to manage energy. The sandwiches deal with noise transmission and the carbon filters deal with absorption at lower frequencies.
Dennis is the absolute best.
Thank you for your support.
He is that.
@@AcousticFields Always. Thank you for the hard word and educating us.
Banquet Hall 14. ft ceiling holds 400 people
What is your question.
I’ve built a reverb plate but I’m frequently hitting the resonant F of the drivers, to drive enough volume for my pickups so I’m looking for new drivers that are larger/ heavier
We do not have any experience to assist you in this area.
Yeah I don’t think anyone does, I think it’s trial and error
But what about the Klipsch CORNER Horn! THOSE Sound quite delicious?
Speaker systems that rely on room gain for part of their presentation value do not fit our definition of room resolution.
What about GIK acoustics? They are known as a professional company and sell bass traps
They make cardboard boxes filled with building insulation.
Amazing
Large, wide, and deep soundstage,
Great
Thanks
240 LBS?! This doesn't sound like something that's gonna fit into my bedroom :S
Pressure based absorption technologies that perform well need mass and corresponding densities.
@@AcousticFields For sure, I'm not saying it's not neccesary... i'm just saying i have to live with crappy A/D times :( I grasped very quickly you know what you are talking about here.
Isn't it easier to place the sub in your listening position... then you wander around on the floor to find the sound that works. That is where the sub goes and hopefully it is in a good spot for the room.
The sub position has nothing to do with easy or difficult. The room dimensions and the SPL used within the room are the most critical variables.
This is not a good start point for this process. Elevate the sub off the floor and place it on casters so it can be easility moved. Place in room center. Move in one foot increments in one direction at a time. Repeat process for another direction. Spend time listening to your music sources between sub moves. Sometimes you will know immediately, sometimes it will take a few songs. To avoid all of this, treat your room so it is pressure balanced. With a pressure balanced room, the sub will sound good anywhere within the room. To aid this tuning process, our sub platforms are on wheels. www.acousticfields.com/product/subwoofer-platform-absorber/
I'm curious, have you experimented with aerogels yet as a fill material for diaphragmatic cabinets? Fragile stuff, but its heat insulation performance has been shown to be incredible. I wonder how well that might translate into acoustic management applications.
The internal cabinet fill material in diaphragmatic absorption does not work on thermal conductivity. The perforated absorber inside the DA is a pressure based technology.
Thanks for the video. Had a good chuckle - you are presenting the same as any design process. As an Architect the "budget vs Expectations" sent the chuckle home. 9 out of 10 times budget wins
Yes, it appears to be the case in most situations.
good stuff
We just crossed the 1,000 video mark. Going to try another video format soon.

Can't wait to hear him in Dragon Age The Veilguard! He was great as Javik in ME3
I have 1 sub in my room being a Velodyne dd15+. My room is well treated but not over treated. I have my sub sitting on a Great Gammer riser only 150mm of the floor and would never sit my sub on the floor again. My room is dedicated and professionally done. One thing I can say is that I would pay more attention to what settings your sub is set at before calibration as it can be a big difference to your listening experience and that’s one thing no one talks about. That’s the very essence on how your sub works in with your speakers. Example is your subs low pass and high pass crossover settings before auto cal. Very few talk about this but it’s way cheaper than buying multiple subs especially at the cost of a quality sub at today’s prices. Your room is 60% of your audio dream and the rest is calibration and knowledge which you can not put money on. If there is a secret in home theatre audio then that’s it. I’ve had my dedicated room for many years and made many changes and mistakes but it’s only relevant to my room.
Hello Sir. I wanted to thank you for bringing me into the world of acoustics. I sure learn a lot through your educational content every day. If I'm not mistaken, I have never seen any video about in-wall speakers on your channel. I don't personally use this kind of speakers but I would love to ear your opinion on that. Thanks again!
In wall speakers do not meet our resolution requirements. You are always best to use freestanding speakers to achieve the highest resolution possible.
Kneel before javik
Excellent explanation, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always follow your clips … latest and very old also. Very informative are they. I am having small home studio (1750 cuft)with well absorption treated. The studio is mainly used for vocal recording. I feel the original vocal track gets very dry in recording. I doo enhance it with some eq and reverb-delay. Whether QRD will help to add some liveliness to original vocal track. And secondly where to put it. Pl help
When you are condidering diffusion, you must use the dimensions of the room, not the room volume. Fill out the information in this link. www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/
From my experiences within my small 13 x 11.5 listening room, I have to say you're absolutely bang on. I have one stereo speaker two feet and the other 4 feet from there side walls and when I move over to the right side of the couch which moves me more inline with the 4-ft distant speaker, the audio sounds way more solid! I've tried to compensate by placing absorption on the first reflection of the 2 ft distant stereo speaker. It's helped, but it's not perfect. I recently just shot a sound test video. If interested, I would love to get some pointers from you... ua-cam.com/video/K49Af49krMc/v-deo.htmlsi=4Zte29QMPC07-G-0 Either way, thanks for the video.
It would be best to look at your complete room. Fill out the information in this link: www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/
Im in a corner store rite now!
Stay out of the corners.
Does that happen to be a bass trap positioned behind your couch? If so, considering it's situated behind the couch and therefore sitting on the floor. Would one be correct in assuming if it is indeed a bass trap, is it likely to still be helping out the low end?
This room treatment lacked the "horsepower", rate of absorption, to treat the amplitude (strength) of the unwanted pressure issues.
Amen Dennis! I still don't understand why some speakers are designed to work in the corners...
Wide soundtstage and room reinforced bass.
Seems simple enough. Big wall = big pressure.
The pressure is based upon the dimensions between the wall surfaces.
What's ironic is, while I'm watching this video, in my youtube suggestions is a video with a thumbnail photo of a big room with a HUGE panel of some sort in both front corners.
Explain the irony to us.
@@AcousticFields The irony is that youtube would suggest a bass trap crap video ("The best broadband bass trap to deal with all frequencies") to me when I've liked a lot of your videos - none of which are bass trap crap. AI is often pretty dumb. The title of that suggested video alone is enough to make you roll your eyes.
@@dashcammer4322 What have you learned about unwanted pressures within rooms and their locations?
@@AcousticFields That you can treat the corners, but it should occur because you're treating the whole wall (or floor or ceiling). Or all 3. It depends on the dimensions of the room. That's one thing.
@@dashcammer4322 Not true. We have found that treating around 40 - 50% of each wall surface area will minimize pressure across the whole wall surface area
Thank You very much for giving this knowledge to us! I have a question, if I make diffuser from hard xps styrodur or material like that and stick it along whole surface to the wall, do You think if it would work? Or does it have to be very hard material like wood. Thank You again, gold videos!
Diffusers are a middle frequency range acoustic tool. This is the frequency range where voice lives. Wood is the only material type that we have found that gives tone to this frequency range.
@@AcousticFields thank you <3
Thank You very much!
You're welcome!
Thank you for this great session. Can I keep the sub woofer above a 110 inch screen?
Start with it 12" off the floor and then try 24". Keep it away from the floor, walls, and ceiling. We have 15' ceilings in our studios and our subs are 40" off the floor.
Thankyou ❤
You're welcome 😊
This topic is near and dear to my heart. Our Church meets in a large Sanctuary designed for a couple hundred people, average attendance now is less than 50. This alone increases the reverb time. And the solution (wrong) always seems to be turning up the volume, thereby reducing the S.I.
We see this everyday. If people can not hear the spoken word of their faith, what are we doing? Why wasn't the room designed to support music and voice? Why is the appearance of the room more important than the sound quality. After 20 years of working in churches, we see new designs still with no budget or space for acoustics. However, there is always budget for ornamentation.
😊, thanks !
You're welcome 😊
Can you make a video on the solutions
We have made numerous videos on managing reverberation in churches. Its all about the necessary four wall and ceiling treatment surface area coverages along with the proper rate and level of absorption technology used. To address your specific issues, fill out the information in this link: www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/
Hi what size is your piano? I am looking at buying a Steinway but not sure what of a room to construct
You must match the room size to the amount of energy you will place into it. Larger piano sizes produce more energy. More energy requires a larger room and more treatment. Everything in critical listening rooms is related to energy and the frequency and amplitude of that energy,
@@AcousticFields I am still in the planning stage with an empty plot of land and no piano. I am looking at a smaller grand piano and a set of Focal Utopia Scala EM in the room.
@@golfzaaaa Fill out the information in this link. You can use the largest footprint the site will support. You will need a 13 - 15' ceiling height if your serious abount sound quality. Schedule a time slot to go over the data. www.acousticfields.com/free-room-analysis/
So nice to find a real expert. Thx, i needed this video.
A large percentage of companies in this business do not educate or explain. They just take advantage of the ignorance of the consumer.
Hello Dennis, If a hall is large, but has a low ceiling, is placement of panels on the walls still the main choice?
When you mange excess reverb, you must have a certain amount of surface area coverage on the four walls. If you can not meet the coverage requirements on the walls to meet the designed for reverb times, you must go to the ceiling.
What do you use for your receiver?
We use the Emotiva line of multi channel units.
bless you! I just discovered this channel and I can sense you are doing a great service to all of us uninformed. Thank you.
I appreciate that
